Bugatti was also approached by the French Government to use the technology of the racing aircraft to develop a fighter variant for mass production. The aircraft was the source of five modern patents including the inline engines, V tail mixer controls, and the automatic flap system

a twin, mid-mounted engine design. Both engines would be 8 cylinder 4.9 litre race car engines producing 450hp each

Hi Invisible,

I'm not sure if you're aware that the replica was reconstructed and flown, sadly crashing and burning fatally on the third flight :-(

Aerodynamic analysis during the reconstruction had shown a tip-stall tendency, and the video of the crash shows a rapid roll followed by a steep dive into the ground from low altitude just after take-off. Witnesses seem to have expressed the opinion that the aircraft wasn't accelerating in the same way it had on the previous flights.

However, the accident investigation appears to be still ongoing. I'm not sure if it can reveal the root cause as much of the wooden aircraft was destroyed by the post-crash fire, so there's probably little left for the investigators to work with.

Regards,
